Mediation: think process, not just a one-day event

A mediation can be made more effective by approaching it as a process not just a one-off event. Preparation before the event and follow-up afterwards can make a big difference to the outcome.

Before the mediation day, a short call with the mediator can sort out process issues ahead of time. These can include e.g. timetabling and time constraints, getting the right people in the room, previous negotiations, concerns that the client may have and, importantly, ‘anything else you think the mediator should know’.

Equally if there are further negotiations to be had after the mediation day, the mediator is sometimes best placed to help keep those conversations going to a fruitful conclusion
