Background

As the scale of a popular air festival grows, it becomes increasingly controversial within the local community. Despite its local economic value, residents complain about its impact, including traffic congestion, noise, pollution and waste.

Outcome

The council, as regulator, sets up a stakeholder dialogue attended by a broad range of interested parties: the organisers, local businesses, resident groups, the police, and others. The major issues of concern are explored, and all parties have their say. The outcome is a collaboration designed to protect the interests of residents and the local environment by gathering information about the impacts and mitigating them without affecting the festival’s viability.
