IPOS's mediators recognised in the Legal 500 Hall of Fame

30th July 2018

We are delighted that the Legal 500 has recognised six of IPOS's mediators in its Hall of Fame. The six mediators recognised are Stephen Ruttle QC, Beverly-Ann Rogers, Mark Shaw QC, Charles Flint QC, Charles Middleton-Smith and Chris Fitton.

The Legal 500 Hall of Famerecognises individuals who have received constant praise by their clients for continued excellence. It highlights, to clients, those who are at the pinnacle of their profession.

Stephen, Beverly-Ann, Mark and Charles Flint are listed under their respective Chambers but can be appointed through IPOS.

Charles Middleton-Smith

is an "impressive operator" who is "amongst the very best mediators". Hisexperience covers disputes of every nature, but he has particular expertise in the media and entertainment industry as well as being well known for mediation of corporate and general commercial disputes.

Chris Fitton

has been described as "such a nice person that he can shame parties into behaving sensibly" along with being "tenacious" and praised for his ability in getting to the "heart of the matter". His mediation practice covers all manner of commercial disputes with a particular strength in financial services and insurance.

Stephen Ruttle QC

is one of the UK’s leading mediators. Having, by January 2017, mediated almost 1200 disputes of every type in both the private and public sector there are few disputes which Stephen has not dealt with. Although his practice began in theshipping, insurance and reinsurance markets (which were his areas of expertise as Counsel) he now views himself as a mediator of any dispute rather than of a particular sector.

Beverly-Ann Rogers

is consistently recognised by the leading legal guides as being in the top tier of mediators. She is described a "absolutely excellent" and "a real star who will always use every tool at her disposal before she gives up on a mediation". Beverly draws on her years of experience as a chancery and commercial barrister in mediating a wide range of disputes. Whilst commercial in nature, many of them involve family members or formerly close associates and have a high emotional content.

Mark Shaw QC

has been described as "utterly reliable and insightful". His background in public law and human rights law gives himan unusual depth of insight into the legal, presentational, financial, personnel and policy issues which often tax public and regulatory bodies. This experience extends to central and local government bodies, professional disciplinary and regulatory agencies, police authorities, utilities and media organisations.

Charles Flint QC

is "the absolute doyen of banking and financial services disputes" and an"extremely clever, firm and supportive mediator". Charles has a particular expertise in mediating banking and financial disputes but also mediates across a wide range of commercial sectors involving individuals, businesses and government includingemployment, fine art, insurance, professional negligence, public procurement and sports law disputes.
