The Great Man of mediation, and In Place of Strife mediator, dies.

David Shapiro, inspirational mediator, has died. After a long career as a lawyer and fighter for civil rights causes, David became the inspiration for mediators, originally in the US, then in the UK, where he lived from the late 1980s. He became a powerful voice for the use of mediation in the Civil Justice system and did much to persuade the judiciary in the UK that mediation presented not a threat but rather an opportunity for quicker and more cost effective resolution of disputes.David inspired a generation of mediators in the UK and he will be missed by many.
